As soon as we walked through the doors of IDEHUCA, the Somos CaPAZes volunteers were greeted with warm smiles and hugs by the students. On one wall of the school, the students had painted a peace dove on top of the colors of the Colombian flag with the Somos CaPAZes logo painted underneath.
It is always a gift to be surrounded by like-minded people who are passionate about the same things, working towards similar goals, and facing similar challenges.
Bit by bit, piece by piece, child by child we are working to encourage the growth of peaceful communities across borders, languages, and cultures; today I got to see this work come alive.
It was fascinating to listen to the responses and input of many of the community members and university students that were able to attend my talk and workshop at Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla. I was especially humbled by a member of the community who perfectly articulated the mindset that feeds and fuels conflicts as well as the weight of hope for peace that is balanced on the shoulders of millions of Colombians as the terms of the peace agreement are being reached.
